Preserving Our Planet for Future Generations

Through our sustainable development initiatives, we aim to contribute to a stronger and more resilient world. Focused on Africa, we support local initiatives dedicated to ecological habitat management, environmental conservation, and education. Our goal is to foster harmonious coexistence between people and nature, ensuring an equitable future for generations to come.

Why It Matters

Environmental Conservation

Many African countries are facing several challenges in the areas of conservation, education, and sustainable development. Habitat loss and poaching, for example, threaten biodiversity. At the same time, limited access to quality education can make it harder for young people to build a stable future. Through our conservation and educational initiatives, we are committed to preserving natural resources and contributing to the well-being of local communities.

Our Strategy

To preserve our planet for future generations, the Foundation supports long-term initiatives such as Sabine Plattner African Charities (SPAC) and Embark in Knowledge. We work with local communities to find solutions that support conservation and enhance people’s quality of life.

At a glance:

Our approach

Supporting conservation and educational projects to preserve the planet for future generations. From early childhood learning to youth engagement, we support initiatives that help young people care for nature and their communities.

Our contribution
  • STEM and environmental education programs
  • Promoting conservation initiatives at the community level
  • Advocating for conservation and education policies
  • Conducting and supporting conservation research
  • Integrating health, social services, and education into conservation projects
Aspired change
  • Youth empowered through STEM and environmental education, and by local teachers trained to support them in finding sustainable solutions for their communities and the environment.
  • Local communities strengthened through meaningful partnerships and access to learning.
  • Conservation research advanced in collaboration with African institutions.
  • Health and social services integrated into conservation and educational projects.
Our vision

Our vision is a future where Africa’s rich biodiversity and local communities coexist in balance, supported by effective conservation and shared care for the environment.

“Through education and community involvement, our projects are not just preserving nature. They are supporting the next generation to act, from the classroom to the rainforest,” says Sabine Plattner.

A Closer Look

Conservation Through Education

Sabine Plattner African Charities (SPAC) is dedicated to protecting Africa's rainforests, wilderness areas, and nature reserves. Through education and research, and early childhood development, SPAC helps local communities live in harmony with nature. The organization promotes school curricula focused on conservation, providing young people with practical knowledge of environmental protection.

Other Initiatives

As part of this focus area, the Foundation supports further social and educational activities, including:

Faculty for Biological Sciences at the University of Cape Town in South Africa

After a devastating fire at UCT’s upper campus in 2021, the Foundation helped safeguard the faculty’s botanical collection as well as to digitize and improve the building’s infrastructure.

Our Achievements

Our project teams regularly determine the most effective strategies to achieve our common goals. We are committed to sustainability and work closely with our partners to ensure that all our projects have a lasting impact. We are proud of our project teams and celebrate these achievements with them:

New Projects

Rather than giving one-time grants, we establish and run long-term projects in close collaboration with experts in relevant fields.

At times and on our own initiative, we might support specific projects with one-time donations. It is generally not possible to support individuals or individual projects. We kindly ask you to refrain from sending requests for funding and ask for your understanding if we must decline them.
