Ten Years of Growing and Learning

Education as a Connecting Thread

Across our ecosystem, we draw strength from what our philanthropic work makes possible. One conviction runs through everything we do: education is what ensures that progress can last.

Curiosity, pace, and initiative have long shaped our culture. We encourage active engagement and see mistakes as part of the learning process. While ambition often drives innovation, meaningful transformation happens when education responds to real needs – those of learners, communities, and society at large. Our projects reflect this daily, helping young people explore ideas, take initiative, and put them into practice.

  • Sabine Plattner African Charities: EduConservation program

Some of these efforts began before the Foundation was formally established, through initiatives like the Hasso Plattner Institute (1998) and Sabine Plattner African Charities (2008). Others have joined more recently. What unites all our projects is a shared mission: to educate and inspire current and future generations in science, nature conservation, and art.

Since its founding, more than 2,700 students graduated in digital engineering and computer science at the Hasso Plattner Institute. Impressionism: Hasso Plattner Collection grew into one of the world’s leading Impressionist and Post-Impressionist landscape collections, with 115 masterpieces on view at the Museum Barberini. Sabine Plattner African Charities has supported the conservation of more than one million hectares of rainforest in the Odzala-Kokoua National Park. These milestones motivate us and remind us of the persistence needed to achieve results that endure.

Over the past decade, our projects have faced complex challenges. But each experience, each shared story, has helped us connect across generations and cultures. In uncertain times, art has offered spaces for reflection and understanding. Through initiatives like the Museums of the Hasso Plattner Foundation and Tales of Us, we have created new platforms for dialogue and exchange.

Looking Ahead

For our next decade of philanthropic giving, we remain committed to enabling progress in digital innovation, nature conservation, and art – especially where these areas intersect.

We will continue to share knowledge across our ecosystem and support ideas with the potential to benefit future generations.

The world needs more people willing to take risks and break new ground. Together with our teams and project partners, we will continue to apply our experience, creativity, and purpose towards more impact. At the core of this work is education – the essential tool for building a more just and sustainable world.

  • “Stay curious, be bold, and hold tight to our mission.“

  • “Since 2015, we have built an ecosystem where digital innovation, conservation, and culture meet – guided by entrepreneurship and a drive for lasting change.”

    John Flüh

Then to Now: Stories that Shaped Us

For our anniversary, we shared stories from across our ecosystem – snapshots of the people and ambition that drives them. New stories appeared on our anniversary page between July and December 2025. Thank you for your interest. We hope you found them inspiring.
